Shaquille O’Neal retires at the age of 39 years old after playing 19 seasons in the NBA for 5 different teams; the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Boston Celtics. He finishes his career with 28,596points, 13,099 rebounds, and 2,732 blocks. He is 5th on the NBA All-time scoring list, 12th for rebounds, and 7th for blocks. He made the All-NBA 1st team7 times, 2nd team 2 times, and 3rd team 4 times. He was Finals MVP three times in a row in each of the Lakers championships from 1999-2002. He was NBA regular season MVP in the 99’-00’ season, and Rookie of the Year in 92’-93. He made the All-Star team 15 times, including every year from 1993 to 2007 except 1999 and he was awarded the All-Star game MVP 3 times.
These numbers show only a half of the way Shaq dominated and influenced the NBA throughout his career. On the court, during his prime, there was no way to cover him. His size, strength, and power made him unguardable without fouling. During his playoff career, he went to the free-throw line 2,317 time, the next closest? Michael Jordan went to the line 1,766. Pure dominance. Its no wonder Shaquille O’Neal was put on the NBA 50 Greatest Basketball Players as selected in 1996, which was only four years into his playing career. Everyone knew, even that early, that the NBA has and will never see another player like Shaq.

The Croatian League Final between Primorje Rijeka (white) vs. Jug Dubrovnik (dark). Primorje won 11-10 in overtime. These two rival clubs are two of the top club teams in the world featuring some of the best players from all over. Especially watch #4 for Jug, Croatian native Sandro Sukno and Xavi Garcia the Spanish lefty for Primorje.
Taj Gibson. Insane.

Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan after being eliminating from this year’s playoffs, and Shaquille O’Neal before game 3, the one playoff game he played this year.
This is the first time since 1998 that neither one of these three players will be in the NBA Finals, which was Michael Jordan’s last NBA Finals.
Here’s the breakdown for each player and how they played in the NBA Finals:
1999: San Antonio Spurs beat the New York Knicks 4-1. Tim Duncan averaged 27 ppg. and 14 rpg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
2000: Los Angeles Lakers beat the Indiana Pacers 4-2. Kobe Bryant averaged 16 ppg. and Shaquille O’Neal averaged 38 ppg. and 17rpg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
2001: Los Angeles Lakers beat the Philadelphia 76ers 4-1. Kobe Bryant averaged 25 ppg. and Shaquille O’Neal averaged 33 ppg. and 16 rpg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
2002: Los Angeles Lakers beat the New Jersey Nets 4-0. Kobe Bryant averaged 27 ppg. and Shaquille O’Neal averaged 36 ppg. and 12 rpg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
2003: San Antonio Spurs beat the New Jersey Nets 4-2. Tim Duncan averaged 24 ppg. and 17 rpg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
2004: Detroit Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers 4-1. Kobe Bryant averaged 23 ppg. and Shaquille O’Neal averaged 27 ppg. in the Finals loss.
2005: San Antonio Spurs beat the Detroit Pistons 4-3. Tim Duncan averaged 21 ppg. and 14 rpg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
2006: Miami Heat beat the Dallas Mavericks 4-2. Shaquille O’Neal averaged 14 ppg. and 10 rpg. in the Finals, while Dwayne Wade burst into super stardom and won the MVP for the Heat.
2007: San Antonio Spurs beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0. Tim Duncan averaged 18 ppg. and 12 rpg. in the Finals, but Tony Parker was named MVP for the Spurs.
2008: Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers 4-2. Kobe Bryant averaged 26 ppg. and 5 apg. in the Finals loss.
2009: Los Angeles Lakers beat the Orlando Magic 4-1. Kobe Bryant averaged 32 ppg. and 7 apg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
2010: Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics 4-3. Kobe Bryant averaged 29 ppg. and 4 apg. and 8 rpg. in the Finals and was named MVP.
Its been 12 straight NBA Finals with at least one of these 3 super stars, sure-fire Hall-of-Famers. It is an amazing run and truly shows the dominance of these 3 players during the primes of their careers.
Derrick Rose’s Top 10 Plays of his 2010-2011 MVP season. He was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player on Tuesday, becoming the youngest ever to receive the award at just 22 years old. He will be honored in front of his home crowd in Chicago before the Bulls Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the playoffs.
Also check out his acceptance speech, a very humble and deserving young man, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeobgK_RvgY especially when he thanks his mom.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly go in for a kiss for the “Kiss Cam” at the Staples Center for Game 1 of the Conference Semi-Finals between the Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks. These were just two of the dozens of celebrities who attended the game, however home crowd was not enough as the Mavericks took Game 1 96-94.
The first round of the 2011 NBA Playoffs ended with a huge shocker as Memphis, the #8 seed in the West, upset the #1 seed San Antonio Spurs, defeated them 99-91, and winning the series 4-2. Zach Randolph dominated in the series, topping it off with a 31-point, 11-rebound performance, including 17 in the 4th quarter. Memphis moves on to face the Thunder.
Here are the second round series match-ups and who I think will win each series:
Western Conference:
#2 Los Angeles Lakers vs. #3 Dallas Mavericks
I was amazed when I heard that this is Kobe’s and Dirk’s first time EVER meeting in the playoffs, even though Kobe has made the playoffs 14 times out of his 15 seasons, and Dirk has made the playoffs his past 11 seasons. Kobe’s looking for his 6th title and Dirk for his 1st in a battle between these two sure-fire Hall-of-Famers. Even though the Mavs do have some size to match-up with Lakers with Chandler and Haywood, unless Terry or Marion step up, its just too much on Dirk, and Kobe’s too competitive to lose now. I’m going with the Lakers in 6.
#4 Oklahoma City Thunder vs. #8 Memphis Grizzlies
The Thunder just won their first playoff series since moving to OKC and the Grizzlies won their first playoffs series ever since their inception into the league in 1995. The Grizzlies are led by Z-Bo, who is the man in case you haven’t seen him play yet, and a bunch of solid role players like Shane Battier and Tony Allen. They are scrappy and relentless and are young and athletic enough to run with a team like the Thunder. The Thunder have the extremely young All-Star duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook and finally have the size with Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka to really make a run at the title. I think the Thunder will win in 6 games just because they have to much firepower for the Grizzlies.
Eastern Conference:
#1 Chicago Bulls vs. #5 Atlanta Hawks
I was really surprised the Hawks beat the Magic but I don’t think it means much because both teams didn’t look very good. The Hawks have scoring problems and the Bulls are one of the best defensive teams in the league with defensive-guru Tom Thibodeau at the helm. Derrick Rose isn’t going to fade now and with Kirk Hinrich injured no one will stop him. Boozer and Deng will play better in this series and even if Joe Johnson plays up to what his contract is worth, about 127 million, (which is more than LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and A’mare Stoudemire get) I don’t think this will be too much of a series. Bulls win in 5.
#2 Miami Heat vs. #3 Chicago Bulls
Since the Heat trio came together this summer, people have been waiting for this playoff match-up, maybe not this early in the playoffs, but we still got what we wanted. The veteran Celtics nearing their reign at the top and the newly formed Heat looking to respond to as the villains for joining forces. Even though the Celtics won the regular season series 3-1, this is a whole different scenario. Everything that has happened goes out the door and this should be an amazing series. Both teams don’t really have a bench or a lot of size after the Celtics traded Perkins, so it will be the Big 3 of the Heat against the Big 4 of the Celtics. I dislike the Heat more than I dislike the Celtics so I’m going with Celtics in 7 games.
American forward Clint Dempsey scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season in Fulham’s 3-0 victory over Bolton on Wednesday. It was Dempsey’s 33rd goal of his career as he became Fulham’s top scorer in the Premier League era passing fellow American Brian McBride. With the goal’s, Dempsey also passes McBride for the most goals scored by an American in the English Premier League.

Ryan Giggs of Manchester United scoring the first goal against FC Shalke in the first leg of the Champions League Semi-Final. ManU finally broke through with this goal in the 67th minute after missing several chances, and Wayne Rooney made it 2-0 less that 3 minutes later. Ryan Giggs made his debut for United in 1991 and at 37 years old he seems to have plenty left in the tank.
